Your piece won't fit into a standard container, but it doesn't fill a whole flat rack either? With XXL Consolidation we combine several out-of-gauge shipments on one flat rack – you pay for your slot instead of the entire equipment.
How a consol load comes together: several out-of-gauge pieces, one flat rack.
In ocean freight, out-of-gauge cargo is charged per flat rack – no matter how much of the deck your crate actually uses. The rest travels empty. That empty space is exactly what we fill with other shipments.
The space you need.
From a full flat rack to a shared slot: the film shows how we combine out-of-gauge pieces – and the three options available.
You book based on our sailings, receive a booking confirmation – and then it works like this:
01You deliver your piece to the container freight station (CFS) at the port of loading yourself – or we pick it up, including permits for the pre-carriage if required.
02At the CFS every piece is inspected and classified by size, weight and type. Then we plan the combination: centre of gravity, weights and over-dimensions of each package.
03Several shipments from different shippers are stowed and secured together on consol flat racks – crates are turned where necessary, provided packing and cargo allow it.
04The loaded flat racks are moved by special transport from the container yard to the terminal at the port of loading.
05The flat racks sail as full container loads with renowned ocean carriers – predictable and reliable.
06At the port of destination the flat racks are destuffed at the CFS; your cargo is released free on truck – or we take care of the on-carriage to the consignee.
Too big for a container, too small for a whole flat rack?
Send dimensionsInstead of an entire flat rack you pay for the deck length your piece occupies – measured in flat rack meters (FRM), always rounded up to full meters. Up to 17 t per piece, weight does not affect the price.
ExamplePiece 390 × 350 × 300 cm → occupied length 3.90 m → 4 FRM. Width and height determine whether and how the piece fits onto the flat rack. Length is what you pay for – always rounded up to full FRM: 3.40 m also counts as 4 FRM.
Local charges at the port of loading for your slot.
Fixed amount per FRM for the trade lane – independent of weight up to 17 t per piece.
Local charges at the port of destination up to release free on truck.
Pick-up all over Europe to the CFS – priced by pick-up location (zip-code zone) and size of the piece.
Three items, all per FRM: your price is transparent from the very first quote.
Whether it's a single package or a shipment with standard cargo on top – we find the right combination.
Your out-of-gauge piece shares the flat rack with shipments from other shippers. You pay for your slot.
Several out-of-gauge packages? We combine them with each other and with other shipments – as efficiently as possible.
Out-of-gauge pieces on the flat rack, the rest of your goods in a standard container – one request, one contact.
Guide values per piece for consolidation. Anything beyond that we check individually – or solve it with the right equipment as FCL OOG or breakbulk.

Floor and end walls, no side walls, no roof. This is where XXL consolidation sails.
Side walls and a tarpaulin instead of a roof – loading from the top by crane or through the door.
Collapsed flat rack for heavy loads on a small contact surface.
Guide values based on equipment data of major ocean carriers. Values vary by carrier and equipment series – what counts is the check for your shipment.
Mind over-height in pre-carriage, too: bridges, tunnels and clearance heights limit road transport. We arrange permits and escorts for out-of-gauge pre-carriage.
Over-width or over-height: the piece doesn't fit into any standard container.
The package only uses part of the deck – paying for the whole equipment doesn't make sense.
The customer declines because the flat rack price makes the delivery uneconomic.
Your customer asks for out-of-gauge, but you have no project department – we handle it.
Consolidation doesn't fit? For example because the piece fills the flat rack, is too heavy or the deadline leaves no room for combining: then TRANS AURIGA offers the right alternative – FCL OOG, breakbulk, RoRo or charter. See all services
The more complete your details, the sooner you know whether and how your cargo fits into a consol.

Out of gauge: cargo that exceeds the internal dimensions of a standard container – in width, in height or both.
A container without side walls and roof, with a floor and end walls. Out-of-gauge cargo may overhang at the sides and on top.
Yes, that is the principle. Every piece is inspected at the CFS, the combination is planned by centre of gravity, weight and over-dimensions and secured on the flat rack.
In flat rack meters (FRM): what counts is the length your piece occupies on the flat rack, always rounded up to full meters (3.40 m = 4 FRM). The price consists of three items – origin locals, ocean freight lump sum and destination locals, each per FRM.
Up to 17 t per piece not for the price – but it does for stowage planning. That is why we need the weight of each piece and, if known, the centre of gravity. Heavier pieces on request.
As a guide value up to approx. 8 m long, 3.5 m wide, 3.5 m high and 17 t per piece. Larger or heavier packages we check individually – if consolidation doesn't fit, we offer FCL OOG or breakbulk.
For the best combination we turn crates at the CFS where necessary – but only if packing and cargo allow it. Please state in your request whether your piece is turnable and stackable.
The open top has side walls and a tarpaulin instead of a roof – good for over-height. The flat rack has no side walls, so over-width and over-height are possible. Consolidation sails on flat racks.
After destuffing at the CFS at the port of destination, your cargo is released loaded onto the collecting truck. On request we also handle the on-carriage to the consignee.
Yes, all over Europe. Pre-carriage to the CFS is priced by pick-up location (zip-code zone) and size of the piece. Alternatively you deliver yourself.
For shippers in machinery and plant engineering as well as for forwarders who want to ship out-of-gauge cargo for their customers.
TRANS AURIGA. All requests go to sales@transauriga.com – the team that answers also handles your shipment.
We check whether your piece fits into a consol – and come back with routing, time window and price.
